luxData.connect
Control the lighting. Stay in control.
The open, vendor-neutral control platform for public lighting—no proprietary vendor cloud, no vendor lock-in, and compliant with EU regulations from the ground up.
Meets the requirements for critical infrastructure—in practice, not just on paper.
Here's what your control system looks like in practice

Smart City Today. Blind Tomorrow?
Many lighting control systems operate exclusively through the cloud and their manufacturer's platform: controller → third-party cloud → control. If the provider, its server, or its business model goes away, the control system stops working, and expensive hardware becomes electronic waste.
Digital Sovereignty—From the Ground Up
luxData.connect structurally meets the regulatory requirements for critical infrastructure and gives municipalities and operators back full control.
Anforderungen
Your infrastructure.
Your control.
Benefits for You
Open at its core, independent in operation
It is built on an established open-source IoT platform. It has been adapted for lighting control and can be expanded as needed.
Vendor-Neutral Server
The controller communicates directly with an independent server, not through a proprietary manufacturer cloud. Hardware from different manufacturers runs under a single control system.
Open Standards & Connectors
Connectivity via MQTT, LwM2M, HTTP, CoAP, SNMP, and gateway connectors (OPC-UA, Modbus, BACnet, KNX), as well as open lighting standards such as DALI D4i and Zhaga.
Company of your choice
In the cloud, on your own IT infrastructure, or operated entirely in-house. Thanks to its open architecture, you can expand or continue operating the system yourself at any time.
Not just street lighting
Lighting is the starting point because it is widely available and remains accessible via open standards. However, the same platform also manages other municipal systems. This creates a unified control system instead of many isolated solutions.
Street Lighting
Individual light point and group control, dimming profiles, error and consumption data.
Sports Facility Management
Control the lighting and sports facilities automatically, instead of managing keys and timers.
Environmental Monitoring
Sensors for air quality, noise, and environmental data at the existing light fixture.
Traffic Monitoring
Collect data on traffic volume and road conditions and display them in the same interface.
Barriers and Access Controls
Centrally control and log access to courtyards, parking areas, and restricted areas.
Charging Infrastructure for Electric Vehicles
Monitor charging stations in public spaces and operate them in conjunction with the lighting system.
Additional Smart City Assets
From sensor nodes to systems that aren't even connected yet.
Can be expanded as needed
Because hardware and software are decoupled, new classes of devices can be introduced without requiring approval from a platform provider.
Why Control the Lighting?
Lighting control is a key factor in reducing costs and energy consumption.
Save Energy
Demand-based control, dimming, and adaptive lighting result in significantly lower energy consumption.
Reduce Costs
Smart dimming delivers significant energy savings while also enhancing safety.
Simply Ensure Operations
Error messages, system statuses, and consumption data are available centrally. This creates transparency and reduces the workload during ongoing operations.
Learning from Data
Connected systems provide precise data on facilities, usage, and energy consumption, serving as the basis for informed decisions.
Securing the Future
Investments are safeguarded by vendor-neutral operations and the ongoing development of server and hardware infrastructure.
Improve Security
Smart lighting improves visibility and responds to real-world situations.
Prepared Today for Tomorrow's Challenges
Fewer components, direct communication, full transparency—luxData.connect structurally meets key EU and KRITIS requirements, not just on paper.
GDPR
Control and operational data remain under the direct control of the operator. There is no system-related transfer of data to third parties.
EU Data Act
You have direct access to all data without having to go through a provider's platform. You can switch providers without having to replace your hardware.
EU Cyber Resilience Act
Minimal attack surface due to few components and direct communication. Updates are controlled by the operator.
KRITIS
Fallback-capable: The system continues to run locally even without external services. Thanks to its open-source nature, it is fully auditable and therefore not a black box.

Part of IgeL_x
Openness can be claimed or proven. sixData is an associate partner in the IgeL_x research project, which is working on an open communication standard for connecting light points through December 2028.
The Goal
To provide the market with a practical solution now, rather than waiting until the research project is completed.
The Interaction
luxData.connect is continuously being developed based on insights from the research project. At the same time, the research project benefits from the practical experience gained through its ongoing use.
Ready for use today
A communication standard designed to last a decade is developed with the necessary care. However, operators don’t have to wait for it: luxData.connect already implements the principles of open networking today, with direct hardware connectivity, open interfaces, and no vendor lock-in. Those who adopt it now are choosing an architecture that will grow alongside the standard.

Through the OCA Street Lighting User Group, cities and operators contribute their requirements directly to the standardization process. As a result, the standard is not developed in isolation from the market, but in collaboration with those who will ultimately implement it.
Three Paths—One Principle
The same principle applies whether you're looking for a quick start or a fully independent infrastructure. All three approaches offer the same level of openness, but with varying levels of control and security.
- Controller directly connected to luxData.connect – secure, stable, ready to use
- Manufacturer-independent, can be transferred to self-management at any time
- Data neatly organized and available at any time
- KRITIS, EU Data Act, EU CRA, GDPR—we provide support for implementation
- Dedicated system instance – completely separate from others
- Custom logic, customizations, and integration of proprietary systems
- Data stored on your own server instance at sixData
- Updates, Monitoring, and Backups via sixData
- Our own servers, maximum autonomy, no vendor lock-in
- Complete Freedom: In-House Development and Custom Integrations
- You are fully responsible for your data and hosting
- KRITIS, EU Data Act, EU CRA, GDPR – self-defined and secured
